Dear
Classmates,
Can you
believe it? Yes, it’s nearly here.…Or shall we say, we’re nearly there:
Almost FIFTY YEARS ago, we graduated from high school full of plans for
college, families of our own, perhaps hopes to fulfill the directive posted
above the entrance to our high school building:
ENTER TO
LEARN, GO FORTH TO SERVE
Now fifty
years later we all have stories to tell about places we’ve been, the lives
we’ve made since we ventured out into the world from the Swinging 60’s. Some
of us will be thrilled to share our experiences. Maybe a few of us have
endured the “slings and arrows of outrageous fortune” and may need a
sympathetic ear. Whatever your story we, your Committee, believe all of us
will find kindred spirits.
Very
soon we all will have an opportunity to meet with others who began our
adventures from a theoretically similar vantage point, graduation from
Highland Park High School. Your 50th Reunion Committee has assembled an
exciting weekend celebrating our past and our present times in September,
2012.
The
Friday gathering will be a cocktail party at the SkyClub on the rooftop of
the Mayfair building on Lee Parkway, just across from Arlington Hall. There
you will be astounded by phenomenal 360-degree views of today’s Dallas
skyline while greeting each other, for maybe the first time in fifty years.
On
Saturday, according to HP tradition, our class will be honored by the HP
Alumni Association at a luncheon welcoming our class of fifty-year graduates
into the Golden Scots organization. From reports of past 50-year graduates,
this occasion is a rousing good time and not to be missed.
Saturday
evening we celebrate with our fifty-year Class Party, which is being held at
one of three possible locations, all of which offer glamorous settings, and
one of these could be a real elegant surprise venue.
Our ability to set definite plans for our big weekend is contingent upon two
important factors. One issue is tied to the exact date of the Golden Scots
luncheon which is always held in September but not on a homecoming weekend
because homecoming uses the high school cafeteria and this is where the
luncheon will be held. The date for homecoming will not be set until
February, 2012, so we can’t pick our weekend until we have that. We do know
that our expected date will be either Saturday, September 15th or the 22nd.
The second issue is: How many of us will be here to celebrate? Your
Committee is doing its best to locate each one of you and get good contact
information. We would like to have a current email address for everyone in
order that we might disseminate upcoming information as quickly and
inexpensively as possible. For those who don’t have or want to use email, we
are happy to honor that, but we need your current mailing address. Most
important, we would like to hear from you regarding your availability in
September, 2012. Will you be able to come and be with us? Are you planning
to come----or not? Since the Saturday date will be either/or September 15th
or 22nd, can you Save The Date for that part of the month until we can give
you the exact date in February?
Please
take this time to think about your upcoming Reunion. Look at your calendar
and save that period of September, 2012, for reconnecting with long-time
friends. Even if you aren’t sure about your plans, you can let us know that.
If you’re ‘on the fence’, that’s OK! You can change your mind! Hey, we’ve
earned that right, haven’t we?!

cooperation,
